Crumlin Road Gaol
The project consisted of the refurbishment of a three-storey, 548m² Gatehouse block to serve as the main reception and shop for tourist activities, incorporating cellular office accommodation and staff changing facilities.
It also included the refurbishment of a four-storey, 2,310m² Administration block as a conference centre and museum, with a 174-seat conference centre, meeting room, exhibition areas, ancillary office, IT and amenity accommodation.
This was a particularly challenging and demanding project, as this iconic site is listed under the historic buildings act. The services installations had to be sympathetic to the period and incorporated into the building structure in a functional, practical yet unobtrusive manner.
The Crumlin Road Gaol redevelopment received the prestigious RICS 2014 Project of the Year Award.
